Hi Gustavo,

I wrote this a long time back (I'm at the age when you change a significant amount in a short time), and I was a rather different kind of person then; someone I would definitely not even remotely like now. I still like Seinfeld, but the current me would never say what this blog post says. Implying that people who share the same preferences as me are somehow superior is narcissistic and offensive.

This article is a historical artifact, like that diary people keep back from high school to amuse themselves over how absurd their thoughts used to be. Nothing more.

Cheers!

I have seen a few episodes of Seinfeld and I too see no humor behind their bland scripts. For you to exclaim that it takes one with intelligence to understand a show that lacks it is just vapid. Not only do I believe Friends is superior, as is Cheers and most definitely I Love Lucy, but I would not create a rant just to say how stupid one is if he or she did not share my interest in these shows as I do. So enjoy your dribble and I will decide whether or not I understand something.

I think you almost nailed re: the characters. I really don't like them. That's basically been the only thing holding me back embracing them.

Take 'the office' for example - David brent in particular. You're meant to dislike him, but deep down, theres something about him you can't help but love. I've seen maybe 10 episodes of seinfeild, and yet to see any redeeming qualities in any characters.

I have wondered about this question too.
I think intelligence and a sense of humour both are required to enjoy the show. Seinfeld rocks ! .. I wish they had more seasons

Is everyone not open to an opinion, regardless of perceived intelligence or wisdom? I dare ask you to remove the black framed glasses you look over while you stare down your nose at us "Morons" and think with a candid, open mind about what it is you've said. To classify people into intellectual groups by enjoyment of a television show makes you a belligerent, stupid person yourself. Now, you're welcome to continue watching your seasons of Seinfeld, or you can continue penning your script while you sit and sip your Latte in Starbucks, just keep your underdeveloped opinions to yourself.

I also watched a few episodes of the show and just did not find it funny. I was in a phd program and would prefer to watch 2/12 men which is a new odd couple.

The show was over hyped, it was aggressively unfunny. There was a lot of outrageousness, screaming and strong attempts at irony from the characters, with heavy laugh tracks thrown in for such mundane things as deadpans or Kramer throwing his head back in astonishment, but very little actual comedy. I realize Larry David was involved in it, but I don't know why I find Curb Your Enthusiasm so funny and Seinfeld seems to come up so short.

Watch the episodes "The Puffy Shirt" (Seinfeld) and "The One in Vegas" (Friends) one after the other. The 'hand' subplot in both is similar. It contrasts the difference between the shows nicely.
